Name: Harry Hannin
Inducted: 1996
Bio: The main organizer and commisioner of the Windy City professional League from 1934 to 1949. His 1925 team the Hannin Did It’s won 55 games in a row and the rush was on to play the game. One of his players over the years was DePaul Coach Ray Meyer. The league, consisting of the best players and teams from Chicagoland, included 26 future major leaguers such as Lou Boudreau and Bill “Moose” Skowron. They attracted 2,500-10,000 viewers per game and was the premier event for spectators during that era. Each team had their own home field...Hillburn, Schubert, Bidwell, Parichy, St. Phillips, and Lane Tech to name a few. They had paid attendance of 389,000 over 2 seasons in the late ‘40s at 2 fields. The players were paid for each game with more going to the winners. Always had a cigar and was a making another deal. At the end he was hired by the Harlem Globetotters. In 1960, Harry was the GM for Abe Saperstein’s Chicago Packers. The league folded and the team became part of the NBA. Since deceased.
